Trump administration prepares for Iran national team's 2026 World Cup visit to the US - Politico

The administration of US President Donald Trump expects the Iranian national football team to come to the United States for the upcoming World Cup, which will take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026. This is reported by UNN with reference to Politico.

Details

Andrew Giuliani, executive director of the White House's FIFA World Cup task force, said in an interview that US officials are planning Iran's participation in the World Cup, despite ongoing geopolitical tensions and the absence of diplomatic relations between Washington and Tehran since the early 1980s.

The prospect of Iran's participation has symbolic significance for the tournament, preparations for which have been ongoing for years. It is positioned by FIFA and American organizers as a global event capable of uniting people, according to the Politico publication.

Andrew Giuliani added: the Trump administration expects the Iranian national team to arrive in the US by June 10 for a training camp in Tucson, Arizona, then travel to Los Angeles for matches against New Zealand and Belgium, and then travel to Seattle, where they will play against Egypt.

Giuliani also told Politico that the task force is also monitoring a planned "friendly" match between Iran and Puerto Rico. It will not be counted in the league standings or tournament results, and is scheduled to take place before the start of the World Cup.

Recall

The US House of Representatives supported President Donald Trump's military campaign against Iran. The latest attempt to limit Trump's powers regarding the war in the Middle East failed.

At the same time, FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated that the Iranian national team will definitely take part in the World Cup, despite the war with the US and doubts about its admission.
