It is noted that Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the Russian dictator's visit to one of the auxiliary command posts of the joint group of forces, stated that "the main news is that Kostiantynivka has been completely taken."
There, Putin also stated that they managed to completely complete the liberation of the Luhansk People's Republic and achieve significant progress in the territory of the Donetsk People's Republic
Also, according to him, Putin announced the planned creation of a "security zone" in the Kharkiv and Sumy regions of Ukraine, and stated that "the more the Armed Forces of Ukraine strike at infrastructure, the larger Russia will have to make the security zone."

The battles for Kostiantynivka - a major industrial center and key transport hub of Donetsk region - have been ongoing since October 2025. Before the start of 2022, nearly 80,000 people lived in the city, making it the ninth most populous in the region.
By the beginning of 2026, about three thousand people remained there.

In June, the BBC reported that Russian units had entered Kostiantynivka in Donetsk region and were attempting to encircle the city. Ukrainian military confirmed fighting inside the city, but the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine denied the enemy's success.
