Sweden orders 50 combat vehicles, replacing the older Stridsfordon 90, which were previously transferred to Ukraine. These new cars are much more modern-the MkIIIC model. Denmark also orders 115 vehicles to strengthen its army.
Swedish Defense Minister Pal Jonson noted that these investments will increase the security of Europe, especially Ukraine, and the Swedish defense industry is an important resource for national and collective defense.
Denmark will spend DKK 10 billion on the purchase of these vehicles, which is one of the largest defense deals in the country's history. This is also an important step in cooperation between Denmark and Sweden.
The new vehicles are equipped with a 35 mm Bushmaster automatic cannon, which gives them better capabilities compared to previous models that had a 40 mm gun from Bofors.
The foundations of the contract were laid back in May, and now it is officially confirmed that Ukraine will receive 40 cars. The government said that the Ukrainian military highly appreciated the preliminary assistance, as these vehicles had a high level of protection and saved lives during the fighting.
BAE Systems Hägglunds, which makes Stridsfordon 90, sees this contract as an important achievement for itself. They will start delivering cars in 2026.
Hagglunds already has orders for more than 80 billion kronor, including from the Czech Republic and Slovakia. However, these orders are still under development.
