The Ministry of Health of Ukraine is working to introduce an electronic queue for arthroplasty. The project will ensure transparent distribution of prostheses and scheduling of surgeries, as well as help eliminate informal payments.
The Ministry of Health of Ukraine is working on a new project to introduce an electronic queue for endoprosthetics. This was reported by UNN with reference to the Ministry of Health.
Details
The ministry explains that thanks to this project , patients will be able to receive endoprostheses through a transparent electronic queue and free of charge. For this purpose, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine carries out their centralized procurement at the expense of the state budget.
It is noted that in 2024 alone, the State Enterprise “Medical Procurement of Ukraine” procured 37,809 units of hip and knee joint endoprostheses for more than UAH 520 million at the request of the Ministry.
Most of the contracts have already been signed, and their delivery is scheduled for the end of 2024, but healthcare facilities still have leftover endoprostheses that were procured earlier. This year, for the first time, a three-year procurement of endoprostheses was conducted, which allowed us to get the best price offers, and supply management should become more efficient
The introduction of the electronic queue is expected to ensure transparent distribution of endoprostheses and patient queues for surgeries, scheduling and calling patients for surgery according to the queue, accounting and registration of all surgeries in a single system, the ability to analyze, monitor and plan procurement of endoprostheses, etc.
In addition, the e-queue system will be integrated with Med Data to obtain a database of endoprostheses distributed and used in medical institutions.
In the near future, the electronic queue will be launched in test mode. At the same time, specialists will be trained to use the system correctly.
We analyzed data from the electronic healthcare system, which showed that 48% of all arthroplasty surgeries were performed in institutions that did not receive centrally purchased arthroplasties. That is, patients purchased them at their own expense, which means that these were informal payments that went into someone's pocket. In order to eradicate this practice and make the process as transparent as possible, it was decided to digitalize the process, which will prevent potential abuse and manipulation. (...) We expect the full launch of the electronic queue (ed.) in January 2025
For reference
Endoprosthetics is an operation during which an artificial joint is inserted to replace a damaged one. Currently, hip joints, knee joints, shoulder joints, elbow joints, and others can be prosthetically replaced.

Serhiy Hryvko, a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Social Policy and Veterans' Rights, explained that combatants have to apply to various authorities to solve problems they face in civilian life. According to him, this system needs to be simplified and made more efficient.
