Due to a threat to his eye, Borys the deer had an antler urgently removed following two traffic accidents. The surgery was successful, and the animal now faces a long rehabilitation process.

Borys the deer, who has already been in two road accidents, has undergone surgery to have his antler removed. As reported by the Wild Animal Rescue Center, this risky step was taken to save the animal's life, UNN reports.
Details
As noted by the Center, a critical situation arose with Borys the deer, making it necessary to perform urgent surgery to remove the antler.
Borys's velvet antler, damaged after the accident, began to grow incorrectly. Since it threatened his eye, the antler had to be removed. Due to the deer's exhausted state, we planned to give him time to gain strength before another anesthesia. However, the antler began to grow much faster than we expected. While the distance from the antler to the eye was 6 mm when we took the deer in, five days later less than 1 mm remained, so we were forced to make the urgent and difficult decision not to delay the intervention
The Center added that they took this risk to save Borys's life.
This was one of the hardest moments recently. We were most afraid of the anesthesia, as his weakened body might simply not have withstood it, and there was a high probability that Borys would not wake up. Furthermore, removing a velvet antler is usually accompanied by heavy bleeding for several days, which is very difficult to stop. But fortunately, we managed to perform the operation with almost no blood loss, and the antler is not bleeding after the surgery
Despite the concerns and thanks to the doctors, the operation was successful.
Borys survived the anesthesia, and we managed to proceed with almost no bleeding... A long rehabilitation lies ahead of him. Time is needed not only to recover from the surgery but also to treat his internal organs, as Borys has many problems with them. So we will take care of him and will certainly provide updates on his health status
As a reminder
In the Rivne region, Borys the deer was hit by a car at night; the driver was located and three administrative protocols were filed against her, and there is no threat to the injured animal's life.
At the end of March, it was reported that Borys the deer's condition had stabilized. There is no threat to his life.
