In the Rabia district of Amman, an unknown person opened fire on a police patrol near the Israeli Embassy. As a result of the attack, which the authorities are classifying as a terrorist attack, three policemen were wounded and the attacker was shot dead.

Police shot and killed a gunman who opened fire on a police patrol in Amman's Rabia neighborhood, state-run Petra news agency reported, citing the public security service, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
The Minister of Communications of the Jordanian government, Mohamed Momani, called the shooting a terrorist attack aimed at public security forces in the country. In his statement, he said that the investigation into the attack is ongoing.
According to eyewitnesses, earlier Jordanian police cordoned off the area near the embassy, where patrols were stepped up, after shots were heard. According to two witnesses, police and ambulances arrived in the Rabia district, where the embassy is located.
Demonstrations against Israel often take place in the area.
Police urged residents to stay in their homes while security officers search for the perpetrators, a security source said.
Addendum
Many of Jordan's 12 million citizens are of Palestinian descent, having been expelled or their parents fled to Jordan during the fighting at the time of Israel's creation in 1948. Many of them have family ties on the Israeli side of the Jordan River.
