NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte unveiled three multinational defense projects at the opening of the NATO summit in the Turkish capital Ankara, which began on July 7. This is reported by UNN citing The Guardian and the Anadolu agency.

At the summit, plans were announced to invest in counter-drone measures and surveillance systems. The amount is $40 billion.

The first initiative is aimed at modernizing the fleet of Airbus A400M transport aircraft and A330 MRTT aircraft.

The second initiative concerns joint procurement of MQ-4C "Triton" unmanned aircraft to enhance capabilities in intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance. Norway, Finland, Germany, and Denmark signed a letter of intent for their acquisition.

The third initiative concerns the replacement of NATO's aging fleet of airborne early warning and control aircraft. In particular, the Alliance will acquire up to 10 Saab GlobalEye surveillance aircraft to replace its aging fleet of AWACS early warning aircraft.
