Due to communication problems between Russian and North Korean troops, there are cases of friendly fire. In the Kursk region, 200 people were killed as a result of ineffective coordination and attacks by Ukrainian drones.

It is noted that ineffective communication complicates the coordination of combat operations, which is especially noticeable in the context of intense infantry attacks involving North Korean units. According to ISW, such problems are systemic and will continue in the short term, worsening the overall combat capability of troops in the region.

The language barrier significantly affects the effectiveness of interaction between North Korean and Russian forces, leading to mistakes such as friendly fire and disrupting the overall coordination of operations

According to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, North Korean troops mistakenly fired at Chechen special forces vehicles “Akhmat”, which led to the death of Russian soldiers.

The GUR reported that the contingent of Russian and North Korean servicemen in the Kursk region lost 200 people as of December 14 as a result of a Ukrainian drone attack on North Korean troops,

Poor integration and ongoing communication problems between Russian and North Korean forces are likely to continue to cause friction in Russian military operations in the Kursk region in the near term.
