Romania proposes that Ukraine program maritime drones for self-destruction

Romanian Defense Minister Radu Miruță stated that he wants to propose to the Ukrainian side that the Defense Forces' naval drones self-destruct in the event of a potential approach to Romanian territorial waters in the Black Sea. Miruță made this statement to the TVR Info channel, as reported by Defense Romania and cited by UNN.

"I was thinking of asking about one more issue, and today I analyzed this aloud with my military colleagues at the ministry. This is something that can be done, and what I will propose is: since these drones have many electronic components, and based on the analysis of these electronic components, their manufacturers or those who control the drones could know where they are. If you suddenly lose them in the Black Sea, when they approach Romania's territorial waters at a distance of 12 nautical miles, the controller operating this drone should program it to automatically self-destruct, without any pursuit,"

Miruță said.

He stated that if the drones accidentally reach this line, the drone's autonomous decision should be to self-destruct.

"If, due to various errors or loss of control, you end up in this zone, you can no longer continue moving. There should be implicit programming on this product from the moment it is launched into the water,"

Miruță added.

He also stated that he wants to propose to Ukraine that it guarantee to Romania that all drones launched by Ukraine are programmed using this technical iteration.

Recall

On June 5, a naval drone exploded in the port of Constanța on the Romanian Black Sea coast.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine warned the Romanian side that the drone had lost control due to Russian jamming.
