The head of the German Foreign Ministry stated that the war has effectively reached a stalemate, and the situation on the battlefield does not allow either side to achieve a quick victory.
"There is now a chance, I think, to begin talks this summer,"
At the same time, he suggested that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin might be ready to consider a diplomatic scenario more seriously.
"Perhaps he is already at the stage where he is truly thinking about it," noted the head of German diplomacy.
At the same time, Wadephul did not specify in what format potential negotiations might take place or whether there are currently concrete agreements regarding their organization.
Earlier, Finnish President Alexander Stubb also stated that he sees signs of Russia's readiness for dialogue with Europe regarding the war against Ukraine, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Kyiv is ready for negotiations, but only on the condition of Moscow's genuine interest in ending the war.
