New rules and fines for electric scooters - Verkhovna Rada committee supports bill

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Transport and Infrastructure has recommended that parliament adopt a draft law regulating the use of personal light electric vehicles in Ukraine. This concerns electric scooters, monowheels, and other light electric transport vehicles. This was reported on Telegram by the Vice Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine - Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksiy Kuleba, according to UNN.

Details

This document provides for the following:

  • movement along bicycle paths and bicycle lanes, and in their absence - along the right edge of the roadway or the shoulder;
    • a ban on operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs;
      • a ban on using a phone while moving;
        • mandatory use of lighting and reflective elements during the dark hours of the day.

          At the same time, the law does not provide for the introduction of a separate category of driver's licenses for users of such transport, but it creates a basis for holding violators accountable. Corresponding amendments to the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses will provide for fines for violating the established rules, the ministry stated.
