Merz on Taurus: Ukraine should be able to hit Russian military bases
Kyiv • UNN
The candidate for Chancellor of Germany from the CDU confirmed the immutability of the position on the transfer of Taurus missiles to Ukraine. Merz noted the right of Ukraine to strike at military facilities of the Russian Federation.
The leader of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU), candidate for Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that his position on Taurus has not changed and Ukraine should be able to hit military facilities deep into Russia. He said this to journalists following a meeting with Vladimir Zelensky, reports UNN.
"Zelensky knows our position on Taurus, it has not changed.we must do everything to ensure that Ukraine is able to exercise its right to self-defense and do everything to end the war as soon as possible. With the change of power in the United States , a new situation is possible and we must be prepared for this. That is, we must consider all possible options," Merz said.
He noted that in Germany there is a rather controversial discussion about what weapons can be given.
"The United States and France already have a different position. My position is clear, our faction. We want to give your Armed Forces the opportunity to reach military bases ( of the Russian Federation – ED.), not the civilian population, not the infrastructure, but so that you can achieve exactly the goals from which the war is being waged against your country. By limiting the range of weapons, we are forcing you to fight with one hand behind your back," Merz said
