It is noted that this will be Kushner's first trip to Israel since January. It comes as the White House and Trump's Board of Peace are seeking to advance the next phase of the Gaza plan, which focuses on disarming Hamas and the possible withdrawal of Israeli forces. At the same time, the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is highly skeptical of the U.S. plan for Gaza, while the upcoming elections in October make the issue even more politically sensitive.

It is indicated that Kushner plans to travel to Israel together with Nikolay Mladenov, who has been appointed the "high representative" of the Board of Peace for Gaza.
