Twenty-one thousand people have been evacuated from the border areas of Sumy region, and another 25 thousand are ready to be evacuated. 70% of children have already been evacuated, and the authorities continue to raise awareness and provide humanitarian aid.
In the Sumy region, 21,000 people have been evacuated from border settlements, and another 25,000, including children, are ready to be evacuated. According to Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, 70% of children have already been evacuated. He said this during a telethon, UNN reports.
"At the moment, 21 thousand of our citizens living in the border settlements of Sumy region have been evacuated. We are ready to evacuate another 25 thousand people, including children. Already 70% of children have been evacuated," Klymenko said.
According to Klymenko, they are explaining the importance of this evacuation to the population. The Interior Ministry is cooperating with the Sumy Regional State Administration, which identifies the settlements that should be evacuated.
"Now the White Angels group will start its work in Sumy region to train local police and rescuers to create their own units. They will work on armored vehicles," Klymenko added.
He said that the evacuation algorithm is determined by local authorities, while the Ministry of Internal Affairs is working on the final stages. In addition, to ensure that people who have already evacuated do not worry about their property, the police are left in the cities with additional patrols.
"As for the humanitarian aid, people who were unable to leave are periodically delivered food. As a rule, shops do not work in the border settlements due to the lack of electricity and water. In some villages, engineering structures have been damaged," he added.
Klymenko also notes that doctors come to such settlements when needed.
The Minister of Internal Affairs said that Russians deliberately shell frontline settlements, knowing that evacuation is taking place there. He notes that they are ready for any developments in the situation when it comes to forced evacuation.
According to him, evacuees are being received in relatively safe regions. Currently, Sumy region is hosting most of the people, but Kyiv and Poltava regions are also receiving people. Some recreational facilities are also accepting some of the evacuees.
