Iraqi coalition of militias issued an ultimatum and threatens a response to US strikes

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq accused the United States of attacking members of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) and a convoy of pilgrims in Karbala, resulting in dozens of deaths and injuries, reports UNN citing CNN.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the coalition of Iran-backed militias, closely linked to the PMF group, also accused the Saudi Arabian government of acting as an agent of the United States.

The group gave Iraqi authorities a deadline of August 7 to respond to the incident, warning that it would take direct action if the government did not.

It also threatened that its response to the US could include actions in Saudi Arabia, but stated that it would avoid disrupting the upcoming Arbaeen pilgrimage. Arbaeen marks the end of the 40-day mourning period commemorating the death in the 7th century of Imam Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad.

The head of the Iraqi parliament, Haibat al-Halbousi, condemned the US-Saudi strikes and called on the Iraqi government and the prime minister to "conduct a comprehensive and transparent investigation into this attack and take all diplomatic and legal measures to protect the rights and sovereignty of Iraq."

"This must be done in parallel with identifying those involved in any hostile actions carried out from the territory of Iraq against neighboring countries and holding the perpetrators accountable in accordance with the provisions of the law," she added.
