At a cemetery in Vinnytsia region, a man damaged more than 70 graves, including military ones. The suspect was detained and faces up to 7 years in prison for desecrating graves.

In Vinnytsia region, a man damaged more than 70 gravesites, both civilian and military, at a cemetery. Law enforcement officers have already detained the suspect. This was reported by UNN with reference to the press service of the Vinnytsia regional police.

Details

The police said that the man  broke tombstones, crosses, broke frames with photos of the buried, tore down flags and flagpoles. The man was unable to explain his motives, claiming that he did not remember what happened because he was intoxicated.

Investigators will order a number of examinations, including a forensic psychiatric examination, which should determine his sanity. This incident is being investigated under Part 3 of Article 297 (Desecration of a grave, other burial place or the body of the deceased) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine

Law enforcement officials add that the man faces up to seven years in prison for this crime.

On June 20, on the territory of Askold's Grave in Kyiv, a woman vandalized the graves of the fallen defenders of Ukraine - Dmytro Kotsiubaylo, call sign "Da Vinci," Andriy Pylshchykov, call sign "Dzhus," and Pavlo Petrychenko. Law enforcement officers tracked down the woman the same day and detained her. 

The 60-year-old woman is suspected under Part 3 of Article 297 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - desecration of a grave committed with hooliganism.
