According to police, law enforcement officers were called to the Bois de Boulogne late on Friday evening after a report of a fire. At the scene, they discovered a fire in a pile of brushwood and extinguished it with fire extinguishers, preventing the spread of the flames. As a result of the incident, approximately one square meter of vegetation was burned.
According to an AFP source, the man at the scene confessed to police that he intended to set the park on fire. He was detained, and the prosecutor's office has already extended the period of his custody.
In France, more than 32,000 hectares of territory have already burned this year. Due to the prolonged heatwave, several large forest fires have occurred in the country.
Last week, a large fire broke out in the Fontainebleau forest near Paris. Police detained six people on suspicion of involvement in arson. Subsequently, another fire broke out, covering about 450 hectares of forest.
