In May, Ukrainian interceptors destroyed over 3.5 thousand Russian drones. Syrskyi announced the creation of a fourth echelon of air defense to protect new regions.

During May, Ukrainian interceptor drones destroyed over 3.5 thousand enemy UAVs of various types across three echelons of air defense. This was reported by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, according to UNN.
During May, Ukrainian interceptor drones in three echelons of air defense destroyed more than 3.5 thousand enemy UAVs of various types. During this time, not only has the number of downed drones increased, but also the efficiency of the "small air defense" operations. The highest effectiveness is demonstrated by the second echelon, managed by the Unmanned Systems Forces: over 1.2 thousand downed drones in May alone,
He noted that the consequences of Russia's daily air attacks would have been significantly more severe if not for the systematic development of "small air defense" and the strengthening of its capabilities by the Armed Forces. Syrskyi specified that the majority of neutralized Russian "Shaheds" and other air attack assets are the result of the work of Ukrainian interceptor UAVs.
In addition, the Commander-in-Chief of the AFU reported that Ukraine is increasing the number of interceptor UAV crews and actively training personnel. Simultaneously, the creation of a fourth air defense echelon is underway, which will cover two more regions.
According to him, army aviation is also actively involved in the fight against Russian drones: in May alone, helicopters destroyed over 440 drones of various types. Syrskyi emphasized that helicopters are being equipped with modern detection and targeting systems, as well as new missile weaponry, which is already demonstrating high efficiency.
At the same time, we remember that the Russian aggressor does not stand still. The enemy constantly changes UAV tactics, increases their quantity, and improves their quality. The aggressor plans to increase the share of jet-powered strike drones to 50%. This presents us with new challenges that require a timely response. At a working meeting on countering enemy strike UAVs, I heard proposals to increase the effectiveness of our air defense and further levels of modernization for domestic interceptors,
At the same time, Syrskyi noted that the issue regarding the quantity of warheads for interceptor drones remains urgent, but the AFU is already scaling up its own production of these components.
Based on the results of the meeting, I defined tasks in these and other areas for the next period,
