The order to reduce the contingent was given by the Chief of the General Staff of the Hungarian Armed Forces, Gábor Böröndi.
The Hungarian Armed Forces have begun to rationalize the number of military personnel involved in strengthening the protection of infrastructure and energy facilities
The agency added that critical infrastructure operators have reviewed security measures and strengthened their own protection.
Therefore, the Hungarian Armed Forces will gradually reduce the number of deployed forces from April 15, 2026, and withdraw troops from those locations where the Ministry of Energy no longer considers military reinforcement necessary
During the election campaign, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán spoke about the risk of possible attacks on Hungary's energy infrastructure amid the situation around the Druzhba oil pipeline. In this regard, about 600 military personnel were involved in guarding the facilities.
