The Ministry of Health noted that the risk of contracting intestinal infections increases in summer. They can cause vomiting and diarrhea. Because of this, a sick person loses a lot of fluid, which is called dehydration.
"Dehydration causes the heart to work harder and the blood vessels in the brain to narrow. This affects memory and coordination of movements, as well as well-being. Seizures and interruptions in heart function may occur. Severe dehydration can lead to the development of kidney failure and the need for treatment in a medical facility, including intensive care units," the agency added.
In addition, Ukrainians were told what to do to avoid dehydration.
"...it is important to drink non-carbonated clean water (from a liter a day). Reduce the amount of sweet and fried fatty foods.
People who have chronic diseases or are constantly taking medications should follow the recommendations of their doctors. And in case of health deterioration, they should immediately contact their family doctor or the nearest medical facility," the agency summarized.
