A Berlin startup is launching the social network Wedium with identity verification and no addiction algorithms. Authors will receive 50% of the revenue, and the launch will take place in July.

Germany is preparing to launch a new short video platform, Wedium, positioned as an alternative to TikTok without disinformation and external influence. This was reported by ARD, writes UNN.
Details
The platform is being developed by a Berlin startup, whose team includes, among others, parents of teenagers. To publish content, users will need to verify their identity, and the network itself promises enhanced child protection.
The developers state that Wedium will be a "100% European project" without bots, disinformation, and hate speech. Also, the social network will not use algorithms that cause addiction and stimulate prolonged video viewing.
Operating model
Content creators will receive up to 50% of advertising revenue. Users who want to opt out of ads can subscribe for 9 euros per month.
The full launch of the platform is scheduled for July; pre-registration is currently open, with over 10,000 applications already submitted. For comparison, TikTok's audience is about 1.5 billion users.
Discussions are ongoing in Germany regarding restricting teenagers' access to social networks or creating separate platforms with controlled functionality, and the new service may be aimed precisely at this audience.
