Ford and Geely will jointly produce low-emission vehicles in Spain

On Thursday, Ford and Chinese automaker Geely Auto announced plans to jointly produce low- and zero-emission vehicles at Ford's plant in Valencia, Spain, reports UNN citing AP.

Details

The partnership aims to revive Ford's offering in the European automotive market, as the traditional automaker seeks to compete with fast-growing Chinese companies that are rapidly dominating the global car market.

This comes amid challenges in the U.S. electric vehicle market and heightened global geopolitical tensions caused by U.S. tariff policy. In the U.S., this policy virtually excludes Chinese firms from the market, although American automakers still cooperate with Chinese companies in production, and Chinese cars are generally strengthening their position in North America.

The joint venture, pending regulatory approval, will be two-thirds owned by Ford and one-third by Geely, which also owns brands such as Volvo, Polestar, and others.

Both companies said they will focus on five vehicle models.

As part of the partnership, Ford plans to continue production of the plug-in hybrid Ford Kuga, as well as a new Bronco SUV, production of which will begin in 2028. Geely plans to produce two electric SUVs at this plant, with the first also scheduled for release in 2028.

The automakers said they will also jointly develop a new multi-energy crossover model, which will appear in 2028.
