In the Russian city of Engels, Saratov region, a utility catastrophe has been ongoing for a week and a half, as a result of which the entire city has effectively drowned in sewage. Due to an accident at the collector, nearly 200,000 residents were left without water for the entire May holidays. This is reported by Russian media, according to UNN.

Details

The accident occurred on April 29, when the city's main gravity sewer collector failed.

It is noted that the accident took place on Dmitry Mendeleev Street. Repairs began on the malfunction, but the city was then hit by anomalous precipitation, which seriously worsened the situation in the city.

Yards and even the first floors of buildings were filled with foul-smelling liquid, tap water was turned off, and a municipal-level state of emergency was introduced in the city. The Russian "Rospotrebnadzor" has already issued a "recommendation" to drink only boiled water or to buy bottled water.

City utility services have already warned residents about the ongoing accident and asked them not to flush anything down toilets or sinks, as waste accumulates in the pipes without water pressure, and after the collector is repaired, the city will be hit by a wave of local blockages.

Authorities organized the delivery of drinking and industrial water and reported that work to clean the collector and pump water out of yards is being carried out around the clock. However, an estimated completion date was not provided.
