According to the publication, Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed the defense minister, who had been in office for six months, due to disagreements between Fedorov and Oleksandr Syrskyi, the now former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
However, this decision gained much more resonance than a mere personnel change and plunged the Ukrainian government into a crisis precisely at a time when the situation in the fight against Russia seemed to be turning in its favor. On Wednesday evening, Zelenskyy summoned deputies to a meeting at the presidential palace. By that time, mass protests were already taking place in the capital Kyiv and other cities, demanding that the president reverse his decision; participants held signs reading "Hands off Fedorov" and "Stop sabotaging victory"
