Environmental pollution detected on the Black Sea coast

Environmental pollution has been detected on the Black Sea coast within the Chornomorsk community — specialists recorded gray spots with a characteristic oil smell and a film on the water. The origin of the substance is currently being established, and the collected samples are being examined in the laboratory. This was reported by the State Environmental Inspectorate of the South-Western District, writes UNN.

Details

According to the inspectorate, the incident occurred within the Chornomorsk city community, where a resident noticed suspicious spots on the coastline.

During the inspection, inspectors found persistent gray spots with a characteristic smell of sunflower oil. The total length of the contaminated area along the coast is approximately 350 meters. In addition, a thin gray film formed on the surface of the seawater, indicating the spread of an unknown substance in the coastal zone.

In the contaminated area, inspectors found an injured little grebe. The bird was completely covered in a viscous substance, which threatened its life. Inspectorate employees removed the bird and promptly handed it over to specialists from the Odesa Zoo, who are currently providing the feathered creature with the necessary assistance.

Currently, the inspectorate's laboratory is examining selected samples of seawater to establish the exact composition of the pollutant. The results of the analyses will help assess the scale of the impact on the ecosystem and determine further steps to eliminate the consequences.
