In the Round of 32 match of the 2026 World Cup, Egypt's national team defeated Australia in a penalty shootout after a 1:1 draw in regular and extra time. In the Round of 16, the Africans will face the winner of the Argentina vs. Cape Verde match.
The Egypt national football team has joined the cohort of participants in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup. In the Round of 32 match, the Africans defeated the Australia team, UNN reports.

The Egyptians opened the scoring thanks to a quick goal by Emam Ashour.
The Australians managed to equalize after the break in the 55th minute thanks to an own goal by Hany.
In regular and extra time, the opponents failed to score against each other. So the fate of the game was decided in a penalty shootout, where Egypt had more luck.
Let us add that in the Round of 16, the Africans will face the winner of the match Argentina – Cape Verde, which will take place on Saturday, July 4, at midnight Kyiv time.
