As of July 1, 2024, UAH 800.9 billion was in cash circulation in Ukraine, up 4.8% year-on-year, due to seasonal factors and power outages that encourage people to keep cash.

As of July 1, 2024, Ukraine had UAH 800.9 billion of cash in circulation, which is UAH 36.5 billion more than at the beginning of the year. This is due to the seasonal factor, as well as power outages, which encourage citizens to have a certain amount of cash. This was reported by UNN with reference to the National Bank of Ukraine.

"As of July 1, 2024, there were UAH 800.9 billion in cash circulation in Ukraine. This is by UAH 36.5 billion or 4.8% more than at the beginning of 2024 (as of January 1, 2024 - UAH 764.4 billion). The growth rate of cash in circulation this year remains low and is primarily due to seasonal factors. Traditionally, the demand for cash increases in summer. In addition, power outages caused by Russia's attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure encourage people to have a certain amount of cash," the NBU said.

It is noted that there are 2.7 billion banknotes in cash circulation totaling UAH 793.5 billion, as well as 14.7 billion coins (excluding commemorative and investment coins) worth UAH 7.3 billion.

"As of July 1 this year, there were 65 banknotes and 181 pieces of banknotes and coins in circulation per capita (as of January 1, 2024, 66 and 177, respectively). The largest number of banknotes in cash circulation is 500 hryvnia denominations, and 10 kopiyka coins (28.3% and 28.1% of the total amount in circulation, respectively). The least amount of banknotes is 50 hryvnia and 10 hryvnia coins (4.5% and 1.6% of the total amount in circulation, respectively)," the NBU adds.

It is also noted that the dynamics of cash volumes shows that the highest growth rate in the first half of 2024 was for 1,000 hryvnia banknotes and 10 hryvnia coins. Their number in circulation increased by almost 1.2 and 1.1 times, respectively, compared to the beginning of this year.
