The Dnipro City Council has stripped Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev of the title of "Honorary Citizen of Dnipro" as part of the city's decommunization. Brezhnev received this title in 1979.
Dnipro City Council deprived Soviet statesman and party leader Leonid Brezhnev of the title of "Honorary Citizen of Dnipro", Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov said, UNN reports.

"Leonid Brezhnev was stripped of the title of 'Honorary Citizen of Dnipro'. Because we will also bring the decommunization of the city to an end. No matter what anyone says," Filatov wrote.

Leonid Brezhnev was born in 1906 in the village of Kamianske, Dnipro region. He was awarded the title of "Honorary Citizen of Dnipro" in August 1979.
