Known as Big George in the ring, the American built one of the most outstanding and longest-lasting careers in the sport, winning Olympic gold in 1968 and twice winning the world heavyweight title with a 21-year difference - the second time it made him the oldest champion in history - at the age of 45.
He lost his first title to Muhammad Ali in their famous Rumble in the Jungle fight in 1974. But overall, he boasts an impressive total of 76 wins, including 68 knockouts, almost twice as many as Ali.
Foreman retired in 1997, but not before agreeing to lend his name to a best-selling grill - a decision that later earned him a fortune that dwarfed his boxing earnings.
