Amazon head on the search for a Bond actor: "We're taking our time"

Amazon MGM said little in an update on the search for a new actor to play James Bond, stating: "we are taking our time to do this with caution and deep respect," writes UNN with reference to Variety.

"James Bond will return... Well, at some point. Amazon MGM Studios has provided very little information about the next 007 film," the publication states.

The studio, which recently took creative control of the spy franchise, hired Denis Villeneuve to direct the next installment. Given Villeneuve's success with the "Dune" films, the move was applauded, as was the decision to bring in "Peaky Blinders" creator Steven Knight to write the screenplay.

Now Villeneuve and producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman face the next big challenge - finding the right actor who can don Bond's tuxedo. However, Amazon MGM Studios executives did not reveal who they are considering as a candidate for the role in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" when presenting their upcoming films to cinema owners at CinemaCon on Wednesday evening.

I know you're all asking when we'll announce who will play James Bond. Don't get too excited. Please know that we are taking our time to do this with caution and deep respect. For all of us, it's a lifelong dream to bring this new chapter to audiences, and we take this responsibility with all seriousness.

- said Courtney Valenti, head of Amazon MGM Studios' film division.

"Here's what I can tell you: when you combine one of the most beloved franchises in history with a world-class team of filmmakers, including the brilliant director Denis Villeneuve, outstanding producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, executive producer Tanya Lapointe, and screenwriter Steven Knight, you set the stage for something truly worthy of Bond's legacy," Valenti added.

This film will be released, and when the time comes, we will have something to share

- Valenti noted.

There are numerous rumors that everyone from Jacob Elordi to Callum Turner and Louis Partridge are in contention for the role of Bond. Whoever gets the role will have to meet very high standards. Daniel Craig was considered one of the greatest Bonds in history, alongside Sean Connery. His five-film run, including "Skyfall" and "Casino Royale," marked a critical and commercial peak for the series. But he finally hung up Bond's Walther PPK in 2021's "No Time to Die," "joining other super-spies - lady-killers and martini lovers in cinematic heaven."

"Amazon would very much like to make "Bond 26" a must-see. Control of the action series was one of the main reasons the company spent over $8 billion to buy MGM Studios in 2022. In the context of Bond's adventures, this means Villeneuve better make something closer to "Goldfinger" than "A View to a Kill,"" the publication notes.
