A man in Kyiv jumped into tar to rob a supermarket; it took 5 hours to wash it off him

In Kyiv, a man jumped into a barrel of tar in order to become "invisible" in the dark and rob a store; he has been notified of suspicion, and it took more than five hours to wash the man, the National Police reported on Friday, UNN writes.

It all happened the night before last in a grocery supermarket in Kyiv’s Sviatoshynskyi district. Patrol officers detained the offender.

"The 26-year-old local resident decided to rob the store, using a very unusual method of camouflage. To do this, he climbed into a barrel of tar that was standing at a construction site, hoping in this way to blend into the darkness. The man then smashed the glass door with his foot and entered the premises, where he put cigarettes, juice, candy, an orange, a grapefruit and, most importantly, wet wipes into a bag," the police said.

Security guards at the establishment prevented him from taking more than indicated, and he fled from them.

"But the offender did not stop there—in the way home, he began throwing stones at the windows of a lyceum. It was at that moment that law enforcement officers found him with the bag of stolen goods. The man was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine," the police noted.

"However, the most difficult part of the work awaited the police afterward. In order to take the man to the police department and question him, he had to be washed. For this, law enforcement officers spent more than five hours, shoe brushes, 12 liters of oil and 4 liters of cleaning solution," the police stated.

The offender was notified of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 186 and Part 1 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—robbery and hooliganism.
