War in the Middle East is slowing down peace negotiations in Ukraine - Zelenskyy
Kyiv • UNN
Zelenskyy linked the pause in negotiations to the war in the Middle East. No proposals regarding a May 9th truce have been received from the US or Russia so far.

Ukraine remains in a state of uncertainty regarding the resumption of peace negotiations with Russia, and the war in the Middle East has become one of the key factors delaying this process. This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview with Bloomberg, reports UNN.
Negotiations put on pause
According to the president, there are currently no new signals from either Russia or the United States regarding the resumption of the negotiation process.
"I think everything depends on how the situation in the Middle East develops," Zelenskyy noted.
He added that US special representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are currently only considering the possibility of a visit to Kyiv, but are already maintaining contact with the Ukrainian side.
No proposals regarding a truce
Separately, Zelenskyy commented on statements regarding a possible short-term truce around May 9.
"We have not received any official or unofficial proposals from either Moscow or Washington," he emphasized.
The president stressed that Ukraine first clarifies the details of such initiatives through diplomatic channels.
Skepticism regarding Russia's intentions
In Zelenskyy's opinion, Russia may use the idea of a truce exclusively in its own interests.
"They want the parade to proceed peacefully for a few hours, and then resume attacks again," the head of state declared.
He emphasized that Ukraine will not agree to such scenarios.
"We do not want any ceasefire to become a tactical trap by the Russian Federation," he said.
Ukraine supports real initiatives
At the same time, the president emphasized that Kyiv is open to genuine agreements.
"We always react positively to real proposals for a ceasefire with Russia, if they exist," Zelenskyy summarized.
