The President of Ukraine did not attend the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris due to the difficult situation in the country. Zelensky noted that for the Ukrainian team, participation in the Olympics during the war is already a victory.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy explained why he did not attend the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, noting that he would have gladly accepted Emmanuel Macron's invitation, but Ukraine is going through a difficult period, so for the Ukrainian national team to participate in the games in wartime is already a victory. Zelensky said this in an interview with Le Monde, UNN reports.
Russians are striking at our territory. They don't care that the Olympics are happening now. They have been hitting our energy infrastructure for several months now. Undoubtedly, we can describe the Olympics as a political event, but for me it is, first and foremost, a great celebration. For all the athletes, of course, and for France, first and foremost. For our team, participating in the Olympic Games in wartime is a victory. But for our country, it is not a holiday
