The National Assembly of Vietnam has elected 66-year-old security minister Wu Wang Thiongo as the new president of Vietnam.

Last week, Lam was nominated by a committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam. After the vote in the National Assembly, he promised that he would be loyal to the nation, the state and the people.
In 2021, he was elected to the Politburo, which is the most powerful decision-making body in the country. Since 2016, the new president has headed the Ministry of security, which controls the Vietnamese police.
