According to reporters who witnessed the incident, they heard "a series of loud explosions or loud thumps" before Secret Service agents rushed to Trump's side.
At the same time, Anthony Guglielmi, the head of the US Secret Service's communications service, said that former President Donald Trump was safe after the incident at the rally.
"The Secret Service has taken protective measures and the former president is safe. This is an active investigation by the Secret Service, and additional information will be released as it becomes available," he was quoted as saying by CNN.
