The President of Ukraine reports positive developments in the discussion of the deployment of a peacekeeping contingent with Macron. European countries are considering sending up to 100,000 troops after the ceasefire.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced positive developments in discussions about the possibility of deploying a peacekeeping contingent to Ukraine. According to him, this issue was raised during a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron. Zelenskyy said this on December 19 while in Brussels, UNN reports with reference to Radio Liberty

“As for the peacekeepers, we talked to Emmanuel about his earlier ideas. We support the idea of strengthening Ukraine, and you understand that. It's a matter of details, we are discussing these details,” Zelenskyy said.

President refused to disclose details of the discussion, as it is “a difficult process”

“I am positive that Emmanuel has already had contacts with some leaders. I don't want to give details yet, because we are in the process. And I see that there is already a positive response from some people,” Zelenskyy said.

French President Emmanuel Macron proposed to deploy foreign troops on the territory of Ukraine before it joins NATO. Experts note that such ideas exist, but their implementation remains uncertain. Various formats are being considered, from police missions to combat-ready contingents, but the decision may depend on many countries, including Russia.

Reuters cited its sources as saying that European countries are discussing the possibility of sending up to 100,000 troops to Ukraine. The proposal will be considered in case of a ceasefire or a peace agreement .
