The Netherlands agreed to host the Special Tribunal on the Russian aggression against Ukraine - Sybiha

The Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands has decided to host not only the preparatory stages of the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine on its territory, but also its full operational phase. This means that the tribunal will have the conditions to move from preparation to full-fledged work. This was reported by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha, reports UNN.

Details

These days, another important step has been taken to ensure that accountability for the crime of aggression of Russia against Ukraine becomes inevitable. The Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands has decided to host on its territory not only the preparatory phases of the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine (Phase 0, Advance Team; Phase 1, Skeleton Tribunal), but also its full operational phase (Phase 2, fully-fledged operational Special Tribunal). We have always highly valued the Kingdom of the Netherlands for its practical cooperation and reliable partnership. The Netherlands remains one of Ukraine's key partners in the fight for international justice and holding Russia accountable for its crimes. And today, the Netherlands once again demonstrates leadership

- the minister's post reads.

According to the official, this decision goes far beyond an organizational matter and demonstrates the readiness of the international community "to move from supporting the very idea of accountability to creating an institution that will ensure it in practice."

We are sincerely grateful to the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands for this important and principled step, which in practice means that the Netherlands, together with partners who supported the creation of the Special Tribunal, will provide conditions for its establishment on the territory of the Netherlands - from the completion of preparatory work to the start of its full-fledged activities. Thus, the Special Tribunal is finally moving out of the realm of concepts and political discussions. It is acquiring real institutional contours. Another important step has been taken on the path to ensuring that the crime of aggression receives a proper legal assessment, and that the political and military leadership of Russia, responsible for unleashing the aggressive war against Ukraine, bears personal responsibility, along with those who gave and executed criminal orders

- Andrii Sybiha emphasized.

Reminder

The Government of the Netherlands announced a new support package for Ukraine worth 500 million euros. Half of the amount will be spent on drones from Dutch companies.
