Since the beginning of the year, 135 people have died in water bodies in Ukraine, including 10 children. Another 74 people were rescued, 23 of whom were children. This was reported by Viktor Vitovetskyi, Director of the Department of Civil Protection and Preventive Activities of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, according to UNN.
Details
According to him, the number of deaths in water bodies has decreased by 44% this year compared to the same period last year. He called on local government bodies to objectively identify and organize mass recreation areas near water for public safety.
Despite the positive dynamics, the situation remains alarming, as every such loss is a tragedy. Most accidents occur due to the neglect of basic safety rules. It is important to remember that swimming should only be done in specially designated and inspected areas; do not enter the water while intoxicated and do not leave children unattended even for a moment
The State Emergency Service reminds that before entering the water, one should assess their own strength and health, avoid swimming too far out, and refrain from dangerous games. If you see someone drowning, do not risk your own life without proper training – it is better to immediately call for help from rescuers.
