Ryanair CEO calls for limits on passenger alcohol consumption before morning flights

Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary has proposed limiting alcohol consumption for passengers at airports to two units. According to him, this should help reduce the number of aggressive passengers on flights. O'Leary stated this in an interview with The Times, as reported by UNN

This is becoming a real problem for all airlines. I don't understand why anyone in airport bars is serving people at five or six in the morning. Who needs to drink beer at that time?

- said O'Leary.

The publication notes that establishments in the departure zone are exempt from the requirement to have a license to sell alcohol, so they are not subject to traditional operating hours; however, O'Leary stated that the rules should be more in line with those in effect in pubs.

Alcohol should not be served in airports outside of licensed hours. We have been calling for a limit of two alcoholic drinks per person at the airport for years. Why not limit the amount of alcohol via the boarding pass?

- added O'Leary.

He noted that, unlike airport bars, Ryanair rarely serves passengers more than two drinks on board.

We behave quite responsibly, but those who are not responsible, those who profit from this, are the airports that open these bars at five or six in the morning and, during delays, are happy to serve these people as much alcohol as they want, because they know they will shift the problem onto the airlines

- noted O'Leary.

Recall

Airlines around the world cancelled 13,000 flights in May due to a sharp rise in aviation fuel prices caused by the conflict in the Middle East.
