This was stated by Moldovan President Maia Sandu in an interview with the Romanian publication Veridica, UNN reports with reference to DW.

Context

The President of Moldova signed the country's application to join the European Union in March 2022. A few months later, Chisinau received the status of an EU candidate. On December 14, 2023, following following a two-day summit, the European Council decided to start negotiations with Moldova on accession to the European Union.

Earlier, Moldovan President Maia Sandu instructed the the parliament to organize a referendum on the country's accession to the EU and announced that she would run in the 2024 presidential election.
