Rada supports new restrictions on adoption: who will be banned

The Parliament passed in the first reading a draft law on defining persons who cannot be adoptive parents.

The Verkhovna Rada has supported in the first reading the draft law No. 10298 on expanding the list of persons who cannot be adoptive parents. The ban applies to highwaymen, collaborators and persons prosecuted for domestic violence, MP Oleksiy Honcharenko said on Telegram, UNN reports.

"The Rada voted in the first reading on the draft law on determining persons who cannot be adoptive parents (No. 10298). "There were 245 votes in favor," Honcharenko said.

According to the MP, the draft law expands the list of persons who cannot be adoptive parents or guardians:

  • Persons convicted of crimes against the state, such as treason, collaboration, aiding the aggressor, justifying the aggression of the Russian Federation or glorifying its participants. 
  • Persons brought to administrative responsibility for domestic or gender-based violence.
