The first meeting of the committee on the establishment of the Claims Review Commission for Ukraine took place in The Hague. Ukraine demands compensation for damages from the Russian Federation since 2014 in the amount of more than $1 trillion.

The first meeting of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on an international treaty to establish a Claims Review Commission for Ukraine took place in The Hague (Netherlands). This is reported by UNN with reference to the website of the President of Ukraine.

Details

It is noted that during the meeting, a draft international treaty establishing the Claims Review Commission was considered, and key aspects of interaction and the organizational structure of the commission were discussed.

One of the areas in which you are helping us is compensation for damages caused by Russia. This is part of our joint campaign to restore justice - for Ukraine and the whole world. After all, this applies not only to Ukraine, but also to the fundamental principles of international law

- said Iryna Mudra, Deputy Head of the Office of the President, who headed the Ukrainian delegation.

She also noted that one of Ukraine's key demands is compensation by Russia for all damages, losses and injuries caused since 2014. According to her, the total amount is more than $1 trillion.

"The Claims Review Commission for Ukraine will be the second integral element of the international compensation mechanism. It will consider applications submitted to the international Register of Damages Caused by the Aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and determine the amount of compensation to the victims," the statement said.
