According to the publication, strong winds and heavy rains hit China on Saturday, leading to the threat of sandstorms and the cancellation of flights and trains.
China's meteorological service on Saturday renewed its orange alert for severe storms, which are expected to sweep through northern regions and coastal areas over the weekend. Some areas of Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Hebei and Beijing are forecast to have wind gusts of up to 41 meters per second, or 92 miles per hour, between 8 a.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday. As of 2 p.m. Saturday, 693 flights had been canceled at two airports in Beijing.
In addition, rail traffic was also disrupted. Some railway services connecting northern cities to Beijing have been suspended.
