Lukashenko to Armenians: You must be very careful not to repeat what happened in Ukraine

The self-proclaimed president of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, answering journalists' questions after the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) summit in Astana, advised the people of Armenia to be very cautious when choosing their further path of development, whether with the EAEU or the EU. This is reported by BELTA, according to UNN.

Details

According to him, many "statements are being made" in Armenia regarding the country's possible withdrawal from the EAEU and a course toward joining the European Union. At the same time, the EAEU leaders adopted a joint statement on this matter following the summit in Astana, where they spoke in favor of holding a corresponding referendum in Armenia.

"We are not pressuring the people; moreover, we understand that this is a political game—there are elections in Armenia tomorrow. Of course, they are stirring things up for the elections. But the leadership of Armenia is wrong to do this. It amounts to the humiliation of the Eurasian Economic Union. And the EAEU members all unanimously agreed with this,"

- Lukashenko said.

He noted that at the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Astana, Armenia was represented by Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan, and the positions of the parties were voiced in his presence.

"Armenians need to be very careful so that, God forbid, they do not repeat what happened in Ukraine. ... In Ukraine, everything started exactly like this. You remember that. So that they, the Armenians, who have just emerged from one war, do not fall into a difficult situation because of this. There is no need to rush. One just needs to think; one needs to be wise. The people need to think very seriously. That is the only thing I urge them to do,"

- the self-proclaimed president of Belarus stated.

He warned that "certain circles benefit from what is currently happening in Armenia," but did not specify exactly who.

Reminder
