Lawyer Olena Isayevska demands that the European Solidarity party answer whether Petro Poroshenko is still a deacon of the UOC (MP). She sent the relevant requests to the European Solidarity party and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC (MP), Law and Business writes.
In her request, the lawyer refers to media reports that MP and former President Petro Poroshenko was ordained a deacon and participated in religious ceremonies of the Moscow Patriarchate Church.
The lawyer also asks when Poroshenko was ordained a deacon and whether he is currently performing this function. And if he was defrocked, when did it happen and on what grounds.
As reported, yesterday the Verkhovna Rada passed a law banning the activities of religious organizations in Ukraine, including those affiliated with Russia.
As you know, Poroshenko has long been an active parishioner of the UOC (MP), and was even ordained a deacon on Trinity Day in 2009.
Poroshenko continued to do business in Russia even after the annexation of Crimea in 2014. In particular, his confectionery factory operated in Lipetsk.
Poroshenko was also accused of colluding with Russia and the LDNR militants during the 2014-2015 hostilities to purchase coal in the occupied Donbas. He directly gave instructions to negotiate with Putin.
During the same period, a conversation between the presidents of Ukraine and Russia was published on the Internet, during which Poroshenko said to Putin “I shake hands! I hug you!”.
