Vice President Kamala Harris experienced a significant increase in her popularity rating among Americans shortly after President Joe Biden announced his decision not to run in the next presidential election and expressed his support for Harris.

According to an ABC News/Ipsos poll released on Sunday, Harris's favorability rating rose to 43%, while her unfavorability rating fell to 42%. A week ago, Harris' approval rating was 35% and her disapproval rating was 46%.

After Biden's announcement on July 20 that he was ending his campaign, most leading Democrats, including former President Barack Obama, supported Harris' candidacy, who immediately began an active campaign.

She collected enough pledges from delegates to become the likely Democratic nominee and showed a significant jump in support among independent voters.

It is noted that 44% of independent respondents now have a favorable view of Harris, compared to 28% a week ago, and her unfavorable rating among independent voters has dropped to 40% from 47% last week. The poll found that 52% of Americans believe she should be the Democratic nominee, of which 86% are Democrats and only 20% are Republicans. 48% of Americans are enthusiastic about Harris' candidacy, compared to 39% who are enthusiastic about Trump's candidacy.

Enthusiasm for Harris as the Democratic candidate is particularly high among Democrats (88%) and African Americans (70%). 49% of independents are enthusiastic about her candidacy, compared to 31% of independents who are enthusiastic about Trump.
