According to the agency, the Israeli official is being investigated on suspicion of involvement in the torture and kidnapping of Italian citizens who were among the flotilla activists. Ben-Gvir himself dismissed the claims and stated that he has no intention of evading the investigation.

International attention to the actions of the Israeli authorities intensified after the publication in late May of a video showing detained flotilla participants kneeling with their hands bound after the vessels were intercepted in international waters.
