Italian court again blocks deportation of migrants to Albania

A court in Italy has ordered the return of seven migrants from a center in Albania, where they were sent under a bilateral agreement. The decision drew criticism from Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, who accused the judges of politicization.
Italian judges on Monday, November 11, ordered the return to Italy of seven men transferred to a migration center in Albania as part of a bilateral agreement to curb illegal migration. This was reported by The Guardian, according to UNN.

It is noted that the men referred to in the court's decision arrived at a migrant detention center in the Albanian city of Shenjin last week after the Italian coast guard rescued them while trying to reach Europe.
The Italian authorities insisted that all of them should be returned to their countries of origin - Egypt and Bangladesh - which the Italian government considers safe. But the judges cited a ruling by the EU Court of Justice that said otherwise.
Italian Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the far-right League party Matteo Salvini blamed the situation on “politicized judges” who, in his words, “would like to abolish Italy's borders.

On October 15, Italy carried out the first sending of 16 migrants to Albania under the new agreement. The migrants, who were intercepted in the Mediterranean Sea, had to undergo screening and apply for asylum or repatriation.
On October 19, a Rome court ruled that the detention of 12 migrants in Albania was illegal and ordered them to be returned to Italy. The decision concerns a group of 16 people sent to Albania under a new bilateral agreement.
