Today, on August 5, everyone can join the event dedicated to the device that regulates traffic in the vast majority of cities on our planet - the International Traffic Light Day, UNN writes.

It was on August 5, 1914, that a traffic control device appeared on one of the streets of the American city of Cleveland, where red and green lights switched, and a beep sounded at the moment of switching.

Although the first attempts to regulate street traffic were made in England in 1868 with the help of John Knight's traffic light, which was more like a semaphore and consisted of two manually switched arrows. At night, the arrows were replaced by gas lanterns of two colors. Once, one of the lanterns exploded and injured a police officer. After that, Knight's device was abandoned.

In 1920, traffic lights with three signals began to appear on the streets of New York and Detroit: yellow was added to red and green.

The first traffic lights in Ukraine were installed in Kharkiv in 1936.

Today, fans of the delicacy can join the celebration of World Oyster Day.

It is interesting that in the 17th and 18th centuries in the UK and France, oysters were considered to be the food of the poor. It was only later that this mollusk, which is also an aphrodisiac, gained the status of a delicacy.

Currently, there are approximately 100 species  of oysters, which are named after the waters in which they were grown. Oysters boast a rich supply of trace elements and vitamins A, C, D, B12.

On August 5, you can join the events dedicated to the Day of Fresh Breath.

Bad breath is medically known as halitosis. According to statistics, about 50-65% of the population suffer from bad breath.

Since 2013, today is celebrated as Underwear Day. The event was initiated by an American company that wanted to gather the largest number of people in underwear in one city in New York and thus set a record.

About 800 people gathered at the company's call, and they failed to set a record, but a new holiday appeared.

According to the church calendar, today is the Day of Remembrance of the Holy Martyr Eusebius.

Eusebius served for many years in the army and was an associate of Emperor Constantine, who legalized Christianity in the Roman Empire.

Later, Eusebius became a preacher in Antioch. When Eusebius was 110 years old, he was beheaded by order of Emperor Julian the Apostate.

Yevhen, Yukhym, Mariia, and Khrystyna celebrate their name days on August 5.
