Venezuela’s opposition and interim government have completed the first round of negotiations, agreeing on judicial system reform and access to frozen assets. Some of the funds are planned to be used for recovery following the earthquakes in June.
In Venezuela, the opposition and the interim government have completed the first round of talks, during which the sides agreed on a series of steps regarding the country’s future. This was reported by Finnish public broadcaster Yle, citing STT-AFP, according to UNN.

In a joint statement, the sides said they had agreed to reform the judicial system and ensure access to assets frozen in the country. Some of these funds are planned to be used to rebuild Venezuela after the devastating earthquakes that occurred in June.
The talks took place amid hopes that dialogue between the opposition and the interim administration would eventually allow free elections to be held in Venezuela.
The United States captured Nicolás Maduro in January. Since then, the country has been governed by Vice President Delcy Rodríguez under Washington’s supervision.
The opposition was represented in the talks by Dinorah Figuera, who returned to Venezuela after living in exile. The interim administration was represented by National Assembly Speaker Jorge Rodríguez — Delcy Rodríguez’s brother.
The sides did not report any specific agreements on holding elections; however, the conclusion of the first round of talks indicates the beginning of formal dialogue between the country’s political forces.
